Shop Manager Gemma Scattergood in her own words …

Hello! I am Gemma, the (various shades of...) red headed shop manager of Freida Mo's! As well as smiling at you from behind the counter and tempting you with cake, I am also responsible for the day-to-day running of the shop and a lot of the behind the scenes creative work with Sally. OK, admin isn't that creative, but ordering new stock, liaising with new suppliers, event & menu planning & my personal favourite....seasonal window display planning & execution! Also how many jobs give you the opportunity to travel to festivals when we take the shop on the road in the summer & days out shopping at vintage events & wholesalers? And it’s a shop like no other that I am proud say I’m also a supplier for - I run my own crochet business called Girl On Purl Action, supplying Freida Mo’s with my enamel pin badges & handmade baby accessories. I also use the shop to teach craft workshops as the space is absolutely perfect. I love the shop, it’s got that ‘hiding in your favourite relative’s house rummaging through their trinkets’ feel to it - I have to remind myself that it’s work & I can't shop here on a daily basis. It’s immersive, inspiring, incredibly welcoming & timeless.

Pop in store for custom crochet orders and to say hello to Gemma weekdays from 11am

Sally Ayres - shop owner

Sally Ayres - shop owner

Hello readers, I am Sally, owner of Freida Mo’s. If you read our last journal entry you’ll know a little about me and how the shop started, what inspired me to do what I do plus the history of me as a business woman. What you won’t know about me is that my best friend is a VW camper van with my boyfriend, Dad and Mum all in close 2nd place. I love rainy days at home, autumn is my favourite season and you should never let me loose at a car boot sale! I am a treasure hunting gypsy by nature and every item of vintage clothing in store has been found by me over many years of collecting. My vintage clothing collection dates back to the early 1900s and I can pretty much tell you where each piece came from, who wore it first and why it’s special. The reason I love anything vintage, be it clothing or furniture, is because each piece carries with it a history, a story, a deep nostalgia that can’t be faked. I love the girls who work alongside me and trust them wholeheartedly - we are not only friends and work colleagues but, in our own way, family. My grandmothers would be proud (and also confused as to how I’ve become a baker when both were such terrible cooks).

Catch me running in and out every day between studio visits and baking appointments, as well as Sundays from 11am
